Santa Cruz Basilica

In 1505, Dom Francisco de Almeida the primary Portuguese Viceroy got authorization from the Cochin Raja to fabricate a congregation building utilizing stones and mortar which was unbelievable around then as the neighborhood biases were against such a structure for any reason other than a regal castle or a sanctuary. The establishment stone of the Santa Cruz church was laid on May 3, 1505, the devour day of the ‘Innovation of the Holy Cross’, henceforth the glorious building when finished was named Santa Cruz. This Church was situated on the eastern side of the present Children’s Park, Fort Cochin.
